Our relationship with wellness is more important than we realize. Complicated also. Being in nature has shown incredible benefits for our physical and our mental health, so the key to wellness may be just outside. Welcome to Better Wellness. I'm your host, Roland Perez, and we're listening to a podcast that explores the newest innovations in true wellness. As the executive producer of the American Health Journal for more than 25 years, I've produced over 500 30-minute award-winning television shows that air nationally on PBS with an audience of over 100 million viewers. But better wellness is more than all that Not only keeping your body healthy, but developing a mindset and balance that prevents illness. Our guests are experienced experts in the world of staying healthy, young and well. Our guest today in the studio is David Delrahim, a friend and a visionary, and an expert in wellness. David, I wanted to talk to you about nature, being in nature. What is the importance of being outside versus being in your office, being at home, being inside? All of a sudden, you're outside. What's the importance of that?
David Delrahim:Well. Being outside versus inside. We have certain exposures to the outside elements that we simply don't have it being indoor, namingly during the day, we have sun, we have nature outside, we have fresh air as we know it, we have breeze, we even have certain frequencies. A car could go by and we might not like to hear about it, but it stimulates our senses to the surroundings. A bird is singing. So there are a lot of frequencies that are going on outside that they cannot simply exist. Being indoor, being indoor wood, is very limiting. Being outdoor is unlimited, being out with the nature, which is unlimited consciousness tell me about frequency.
Roland Perez:We spoke about frequency before the show here. What is frequency? It's, like you said, like the music of nature.
David Delrahim:Right. So everything has a frequency, operates through frequency. We human beings, we do have frequency. Even our emotional is a frequency. We are positive versus negative. It's a completely different frequency. Going outside and hearing the birds singing is one of the best frequencies. I call it nature's frequency. Being in the forest, among trees, they do have a frequency. It's a very soothing frequency being next to the ocean and the waves. Of course there's frequency.
Roland Perez:I always feel better when I said to you that I always feel better when I go to the beach, because there is a lot going on at the beach. People just think, oh, you just walk on the beach, on the sand. It's the feeling, the feeling of the sand underneath your feet, and there's nothing as beautiful as a wave crashing and listening to the waves come and then standing by the thing and watching the water rushing towards you. Watching the water rushing towards you.
David Delrahim:Right, and so, as you said, being outside, whether it's out on the beach or just going for hiking, all your senses are working. So, versus being indoor, what's going on is either carpet or wood.
Roland Perez:Or radio or something artificial.
David Delrahim:Or we are in front of the monitor, the TV, the cell phone, all those artificially curated programs for us, programmed for us, which sometimes makes you wonder which type of frequency you're getting, you're receiving. You're hearing versus being outside, which nature's frequency is a frequency of love Period? So it's unconditional and unconditional love. You don't have to sort through frequency to see which one is good for you and which one is not. What is the intention behind it? Am I good, am I protected? Am I safe?
David Delrahim:When you're with nature, you're safe and nature is here to serve us, human, with unconditional love, from the birds to the trees, to the plant, to the soil, to oceans, to sun, even at night, moon. How beautiful it is that we sit outside, even at night, and whether is the, whether it's the first night or the 14th or 15th, with that beautiful round moon, all of it. And when you close your eyes and you feel the nature, all of it, it's like a symphony. The trees, the ocean, the running water, the birds are singing, the moon is coming up. Imagine, all of these are here to support us as human beings, for our own growth. Unconditional love. There's nothing that they need from us, nothing.
Roland Perez:A friend of mine went to the Grand Canyon. He said when he stood on the edge and he saw nature 360 and looked down and saw the river and the cliffs and the water and there was a wind going, he said he felt like he was part of what was going on in the world like no other time that it was a rush. I had that same feeling that you just talked about. A moment ago. I went to a wedding in Buffalo, new York, and I went to Niagara Falls. I don't know if you've ever been there, but if you stand next to it and the water is coming down millions of gallons of water coming down, crashing down, and there's a mist and the sound if you're ever in nature, that's the moment. That's a moment in nature is standing next to Niagara Falls. So I understand what you're saying when you say you can walk a river, a creek. The sound of it is amazing, right?
David Delrahim:So very interesting. So I believe it just is. Nature is fixed, it's just fixed. It is the human that evolves changes. Sometimes it's positive, sometimes it's negative, sometimes it's present, sometimes it's out there wandering. So we are that fixed element and we're trying to find our own place with a fixed state. So are we working on the nature? No, it's fixed. We are the variable. So we got to go inward and try to bring us in harmony which is the word that I want to talk about with something that is here and it is fixed. It is absolute. Nature is part of divine fixed. The birth is fixed, the bird is not going to change his voice, the bird is not going to get a crap but like a human that all of a sudden kind of is starting to cough or not being able to speak clearly. Birth frequency is fixed, nature is fixed and everything is aligned with the frequency of love.
Roland Perez:So do we sort of harmonize with that when we go into that space?
David Delrahim:Well, we have everything to do with putting ourselves at a disharmony the way we eat, our practices, basically the way we eat, the way we move or do not move our body, the way we think, the way we respond to our emotions, the way we get triggered. There are so many elements that can throw us off. And nature, because it is fixed and is a very quick, easy way, safe, secure, to harmonize ourselves, bringing ourselves back to balance. So nature is always on our side, it doesn't get emotional, doesn't get upset, steady every day, 24 hours a day, coming from love.
Roland Perez:But how would somebody harmonize with nature?
David Delrahim:All right, let's find out. You know what? How do we get out of harmonization, out of balance? Well, our lifestyle, we are working with a lot of electronics. It's just a way of life. I mean, you cannot be without your cell phones or computers, you cannot be without even electricity at home. So all of these devices, and even out on the street you have towers, the Wi-Fi, all of these things. They have EMFs, so our body absorbs all of these EMFs, so we are out of harmony. And if we go to the beach and we remove our shoes, we are earthing ourselves. When we get out of harmony, really our body is being positively charged, which creates inflammation and that becomes pain and other sorts of discomforts.
Roland Perez:Earthing is something we're going to talk about later on in the series, but it's a fascinating thing, is earthing?
David Delrahim:Right, so we can go outside. We can go stand next to a tree, we can sit down, we can remove our shoes, step on the grass and again getting close to the nature. You know what, if we close our eyes and calm our minds, even better, faster we get to the point of harmony.
Roland Perez:And it's very easy to test it.
David Delrahim:You know, when we get upset, we have anxiety. Rather than popping a couple of pills, we just, you know, go under the sun just for a few minutes, go stand under the shade. After that, next to a tree, sit on the ground. It's okay, they're all here to serve us from love.
Roland Perez:You mentioned the sun. Give me some benefits of the sun.
David Delrahim:Oh, the benefits of the sun is just enormous, but it's enormous amount of benefits. However, they have scared us from being out in the sun, so we don't go to the sun, and when we go to the sun we rub a lot of things all over our face.
Roland Perez:Right.
David Delrahim:Which you know, some of those lotions you might want to read in the back. Just see what's in it before you put it on. But it goes back to balance. You don't have to be under the sun for hours. You really need about 15 minutes. Half an hour depends on what time of day it is. The UV gets, you know, intensified. It goes from 10 am to about 4 pm. Before 10 am go for about half an hour. Early in the morning, which I normally love to do. When the sun comes up, I like to be in front of it for about an hour because that's a completely different kinds of rays that you will receive. Or right before the sunset. Those two an hour after the sunrise, an hour before the sunset perfect time to get sun, I mean. And the benefits from the vitamin D, which is so important to us, not only for our bones but it will help us even with our sleep because of the melatonin and balancing our circadian rhythm very important.
Roland Perez:When I go out to the sun and I just sit for a moment and put my head back and just enjoy the sun for just a few moments, you can feel it in your body, the warmth, the energy that you're getting from the sun. There's a certain amount of. Maybe it's different for other people, but for me it's an energy. I feel the energy of the sun. I don't sit in the sun very long, but when I am there and I'm conscious, I'm not walking to a meeting outside or something. I am literally sitting in a chair with my head back and enjoying the sun. There is a magic.
David Delrahim:Absolutely. Our mood changes when it is a sunny day. We're smiling more, we have more energy, maybe we want to go here and there, we want to just walk outside. Even if you talk with the retailers, the days that are sunny they do more business than the days that are not. I was a retailer for 40 years. Huge difference between sunny days and gloomy or cloudy days. And if you look at some of the statistics around the world, what sun, or lack of, does to the population, you would see that unfortunately, there are more depressions and suicides in the areas that they don't get a lot of sun. Absolutely so, if you look at it, what sun does? The sun is life at all levels, but in balance. Just because it's a source of light, we cannot just sleep under the sun for eight hours. We know what it would do to our skin, but in the right amount. I'm making sure that, not coming from the fear, go out, enjoy the sun, receive the blessings of what comes from the sun. Sun is here to serve us.
Roland Perez:It's all part of the outside experience, from the sun to the moon, to the sounds, to the wind, to the babbling brook. It's all fixed, it's there for us. All we have to do is step into it.
David Delrahim:Step into it and connect with it. You know when you go don't be on your cell phone because you're disconnected. Be with it, be present, give yourself, honor yourself for 15 minutes. I don't think anything will happen in 15 minutes. Even if something happens, it is outside of your control anyway, so why even bother 15 minutes? Immerse yourself into outside and, if you can close your eyes and sit and capture that moment in life and be one not only with the nature, be one with yourself and with your inner self.
Roland Perez:Again, great insight. Thank you, david. As always, your perspective is refreshing to hear and remember.
